Praying the Psalms

The Psalms are a wonderful resource for developing a vocabulary for worship and praise that is both scriptural, heart-felt and relevant for everyday life.   

            Psalm 8 - joyful wonder of the majesty of God

            Psalm 11 - when everything is going down the drain, You are God 

Psalm 16 - God is my refuge and sure foundation

            Psalm 20 - God will save me from this attack

            Psalm 23 - the complete sufficiency of the Lord

            Psalm 27 - the Lord is my light and my salvation

Psalm 42 - my desperation for God

            Psalm 51 - cry of repentance

Psalm 62 - I find rest in God alone

Psalm 73 - complete transparency of despair and frustration transitioning into confession then into the faithfulness of God

Psalm 79 - petition for our sinful nation

Psalm 84 - declaration of the beauty of God

Psalm 95 - an invitation to worship God

Psalm 103 - thanksgiving for all God has done...forgiveness of sin, etc.

Psalm 119 - (vs. 33-37) a prayer to be faithful and upright

Psalm 121 - worship of God for His faithfulness

Psalm 139 - (vs. 23-24) a prayer to God to let His light shine upon our hearts

Psalm 145 - a joyful song of praise
